The human loudspeaker that is Mark Cuban has spoken once again. This time he had some nice words for anyone out there thinking of buying YouTube.
In a conversation with advertisers in New York about the online video giant, Cuban said that anyone who buys YouTube "is a moron," citing copyright issues. "They are just breaking the law."
"There is a reason they haven't yet gone public, they haven't sold. It's because they are going to be toasted," Cuban added.
David A. Utter at WebProNews offers some insight into an allusion to the MGM vs. Grokster case made by Cuban.
YouTube also recently clarified the rumored reporting technology that they were said to be creating. The technology was supposed to help Warner Music Group share ad revenues from videos that were owned by WMG, and was also supposed to help the site monitor copyrighted material and easily take them down. It was also said to be able to track copyrighted material in user-generated video clips.
Well, it seems that that was mostly hype and hot air.
The technology will allow the site to keep removed videos from being re-posted, and it will allow content owners to track their own content on the site, but it does not seem like it will be able to do all the other nice, intricate copyrighted material tracking early reports indicated.
So, now the question is, where did this wrong information come from?
YouTube was also reported to be just third in terms of unique U.S. video streams.
This was not the best week ever for YouTube.
