Heather Hopkins of Hitwise has recently written a post concerning flow on the Internet. This refers to how Web users are moving around the Web, and which sites lead them to a particular site, and what site they go to from there. She uses Wikipedia as the example.
There are some categories that have clear authoritative sites, such as Computer and Internet (Google) and Entertainment - Movies (IMDB), but there are others that do not, such as Entertainment - TV and Travel.
Flow is an interesting and very large topic that should deserve some more research and attention, and I think Ms. Hopkins' blog post is just beginning to scratch the surface.
You can read more about it here.
