The past two days have seen both Google and Zoho introduce online productivity packages to the Web. Google Docs & Spreadsheets is, well, Writely and Google Spreadsheets. Zoho offers Zoho Virtual Office, Writer, Sheet, Show, Projects, CRM, Creator, Planner, and Chat, along with a few Utilities.
Though Google is likely to unveil a more comprehensive online suite of products in the future, it's clear that Google and Zoho are putting the pressure on Microsoft to respond with its purported online version of Microsoft Works, which is expected to be released in the near future.
David A. Utter makes some interesting points about the possible downsides of Google Docs & Spreadsheets, also citing Garett Rogers.
In other Google news, the search (and now video) giant is attempting to educate teachers about its products through Google For Educators.
"You can explore a Google tool you've never tried before, then tell us what you think about it. Or road test our lesson ideas, then follow the links to submit your own. And if you'd like to share your expertise with fellow educators, we encourage you to send us your story – we'd love to feature it on this site," the site says.
