Google to be Number 1 Next Year

With all the buzz surrounding Google, it may come as a surprise to some people out there that Google is not the most trafficked site in the world, and in fact, isn’t even in the top three.  According to comScore’s September numbers, Yahoo! is number one with 130 million unique visitors, Time Warner is number two with 120 million visitors, Microsoft is number three with 118 million visitors, and Google is number four with 110 million visitors.

This is not stopping Citigroup analyst Mark Mahoney from predicting that Google will top that list by the end of 2007 because of its strong growth.  Google grew 22% from last year, and if you combine this with YouTube’s addition to the Google stables, it appears that continued strong growth is certainly in store for the Mountain View, California-based Internet giant.

According to Alexa, Google currently has three sites in the “Global Top 500”: Google, YouTube, and Orkut.com, which has been showing surprising strength in recent months.

Besides bragging rights, this will guarantee big-time potential for their bottom line, which will benefit greatly from the increased eyes and clicks for its ads, which generate the overwhelming majority of the company’s revenue stream.

Though the majority of Google’s non-search initiatives have failed to achieve mainstream appeal and acceptance, it appears that those disappointments have not bogged the company down yet.

Google looks to continue its ruthless assault on all competitors out there, and haters waiting for the search giant to fall will probably have to wait at least another year for their dreams to come true.
