The Search For Search: Memoirs Of A Trade Show Attendee

By:
Doug Garfinkel - Topic: Search - Date: March 1, 2006
Is there any hotter topic in Internet Marketing than search? Has there ever been more buzz for a new marketing channel? That's saying a lot in our industry. With caution, I say that much of it is deserved. It doesn't seem like search will be one of those "vaporware", buzz topics that quickly fades from memory.

I attended a number of seminars at the Search Engine Strategies show (SES to you newbies) just held in NY. If you haven't been to one, I highly recommend going. They're hard to miss..it's really more like a traveling circus. They're held once a month in cities all over the world. There's bound to be one near you soon. If not, maybe you can convince your boss to send you to the one in China next month or Italy in April. They all offer essentially the same seminars.

I normally hate trade shows and the ridiculous fees for seminars that teach you stuff you already know. In this case, the seminars are as valuable as the expo hall, if not more. Whether you're just starting or you're experienced with search, you'll learn something. Both PPC and SEO are covered. And many of the panels include representatives from the major engines, like Google, MSN and Yahoo!, with plenty of open ended Q&A.

So, in your search for search, be sure to check out SES. And no, I don't have an affiliation with them. But I do hope they send me some free passes for giving them a plug :)

Doug's Movie Quote Of The Week
From Stripes

Psycho: The name's Francis Sawyer, but everybody calls me Psycho. Any of you guys call me Francis, and I'll kill you.
Leon: Ooooooh.
Psycho: You just made the list, buddy. Also, I don't like no one touching my stuff. So just keep your meathooks off. If I catch any of you guys in my stuff, I'll kill you. And I don't like nobody touching me. Anyone touches me, and I'll kill you.
Sergeant Hulka: Lighten up, Francis.
