  SEO vs. PPC (Part IV): Time

The time frame for implementing SEO and PPC campaigns is radically different. You need to change your expectations if you are moving from PPC to SEO. Here are the major differences:

- PPC is instantaneous. You put up a campaign and see results right away. SEO can take months to see results.

- PPC can be changed at any point in time. For SEO, you need to make changes over a longer period of time. If you do too much at once, you won't be able to understand what is working or what isn't.

- SEO generally requires more time and effort on your part. Once you nail down the PPC "formula", you can replicate and expand pretty easily. SEO rules are constantly changing, so you are always implementing new techniques and testing new approaches.

- SEO takes patience. You won't see results for a while, then it all kicks in. And then it stops working and you have to do more. Keep reminding yourself (and management).
