There's been a bunch of news in the search industry lately - no surprise. Here are some of the most important things going on, and my thoughts:
1. Google actually had the nerve to complain about Microsoft's new browser, which has a search bar built in. They claim it's unfair, because it will heavily encourage use of MSN Search. Huh? Has anyone heard of the Google toolbar? It comes built in with Dells and probably every other computer, and at least half the people I know have it installed. They're just mad because it will hurt their own toolbar. At least Microsoft allows you to pick your own search site - Google only lets you use Google.
2. Google is getting more and more like Microsoft everyday. See above. Their strategy seems to be to let others innovate and work out the bugs. Then jump into to the market. GMail and Google Finance are just two examples. They are getting less innovative the bigger they get.
3. Microsoft is officialy launching MSN Search for advertisers today. Bill Gates says that they will keep Google "honest". That's a hoot!
4. Microsoft announced plans to buy Yahoo! and Google. The name of the new company will be Microyahoogle.
Have a search-rific day!
